La Paz

The most 'out of breath' street in the world
The capital of Bolivia is a truly unique city. Set in a deep canyon carved into the altiplano it has beautiful colonial architecture, a modern central district and fantastic views at every turn. The only thing it doesn't have is much oxygen - which becomes immediately apparent whenever you try to walk uphill.

La Paz has a very interesting collection of markets. You can often buy anything from dried llama foetuses to souvenirs from the same stall.
Dried llama foetuses anyone?
OK - how about some popcorn then?
It's a little known fact that popcorn was invented in the Andes. People eat it by the wheel barrowful - literally!
